This Series will focus on the Bible - on Holy Scripture and passages I like - on characters in the Old Testament that I admire - on New Testament lessons that I am still learning - on the great things from the Best Book Ever!
Well, 2020 is almost over. And generally speaking, this year hasn’t been a very good one. Many people lost their jobs, many people lost their lives. We aren’t able to see our family members, especially the elderly members. 2020 has been a tough year, and I am sure 2021 will bring more challenges.
But through it all, there has also been good.
I was thinking of what I should write about this month, when this bible passage came to mind:
“Be still and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10.
This has been the perfect year to take a step back, and be still. To let God work in our lives. But because of the panic, fear, anger, and frustrations of this last year, how many of us have truly taken the time to be still and let God work in our lives? I have tried, but I know that I haven’t always been successful.
Psalm 46 opens with this passage:
“God is our refuge and strength, / a very present help in trouble. / Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, / though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; / though its waters roar and foam, / though the mountains tremble with its tumult.”
- Psalm 46:1-3.
God is our refuge and our strength! He is our help in times of trouble!
And just because 2020 is coming to an end, that doesn’t mean that our troubles are over. We don’t know how long this pandemic will last, and we don’t know what the future has in store for us. But we should each be taking the time to be still, to know God, and to let Him work in our lives.
One of my cousins posted an image on her facebook page that said, “Can we start a thread of good things that happened to you in 2020?” I see this post everywhere now, and I think it’s a great idea!
This year has been so hard for so many of us, but God has still blessed us in so many ways.
This year:
I found out I was pregnant after years of trying.
Nathan and I celebrated 4 years of marriage (and 7 years of being together).
Two of my siblings, and one of Nathan’s, got married this year.
My sister-in-law had a baby girl in June.
My sister had a baby boy in October.
I organized a faith group, and am now part of another one - both of which have helped me grow in my faith
I lost my job, but am now leading a girls faith group for my sister and some of her friends
Nathan lost his job, but found one that pays better than the last one.
So many wonderful things have happened in my life, and some of them would not have happened if not for COVID. Every cloud has a silver lining, and every bad year has some blessings in it.
Instead of focusing on the negatives, what are the positives that have come from this year? Where has God blessed you this year? How can you be still and let God work in your life?
I pray that you all have a wonderful Christmas, regardless of who we celebrate with this year. I pray that you can see God’s blessings in your life, and that next year can bring you joy and peace.
